RSS -- Really Simple Syndication

RSS stands for "Really Simple Syndication". It is used to easily distribute a list of headlines, update notices, and sometimes content to a wide number of people.

Randy Morin created a fairly comprehensive list of popular RSS Readers that can give more information on which readers to use. You can also read more about RSS at Wikipedia.
