Proclamation from the Office of the Governor
State of Washington
Whereas, April has been designated as National Child Abuse Prevention Month; and Whereas, state officials nationwide recognize efforts focused on the prevention of child abuse and neglect; and Whereas, over the past five years, Safe Harbor Crisis Nursery has provided a safe haven for more than 3500 children, age birth to 12 years, representing more than 65,000 hours of care; and Whereas the National Association of Social Workers has recognized Safe Harbor Crisis Nursery as Washington State Social Work Agency of the Year; and Whereas, our state should become more aware of the importance of non-profit agencies shielding our youngest citizens; Now, Therefore, I, Gary Locke, Governor of the State of Washington, do hereby proclaim April 17, 2004 as Safe Harbor Crisis Nursery Day in Washington State, and I urge all citizens, governmental agencies, community groups, religious organizations, medical facilities, and businesses to celebrate their efforts to protect the most vulnerable children of our society.
