My Friends Place Introducing southeastern Washington's first safe overnight sanctuary for homeless teens. My Friends Place had its ribbon cutting ceremony on November 30, 2011 and will provide immediate basic human survival needs for youth on the streets. Warm meals, showers, laundry, and a safe place to rest, for youth ages 13 through 17.
Next, dedicated staff and volunteer mentors will assist them in accessing long term solutions including family reconciliation services, transitional living arrangements, educational programs, job training, and help with mental health or chemical dependency.
On November 30, 2011 My Friends Place opened to provide dinners, showers, homework help, laundry, clothes, school supplies, access to community services and fun to any homeless youth up to age 21. We have now open up as an overnight shelter for youth ages 13 to 17 years old. We have dinner and breakfast for the youth as well as the services listed above when we were just doing the drop in. Most of the youth who will come to My Friends Place have had family problems and some kind of life trauma. Our staff are welcoming and will provide support to re-unite families when possible. When reunification is not in the best interest of the youth, efforts will be made to connect them to resources to become independent.
